In Jain mode, LabelSense reads the label for a vegetarian diet first: anything marked Red (animal-derived) or Yellow (egg) is not suitable. On top of that it looks for the ingredients the app's Jain mode avoids — onion, garlic, root vegetables, fungi and honey — which turn up on Australian packs under many names.
Asafoetida (hing), turmeric and dried or powdered ginger (sonth) are not flagged in Jain mode. Fresh ginger, potatoes and other root vegetables are, wherever they appear on a label.
Additives whose source a label rarely states — such as emulsifier 471, enzymes or rennet — show as “Check the source” rather than a guess. See the E-number guide for the full list.
Results come from reading the label. Always check the pack yourself, especially for allergies. Ingredient sources can change without notice — when a label doesn't settle it, ask the manufacturer.
